So here we are today, the years have fallen far.
The ashes lie awake in wait, of all our restless hearts.
But hear me out, just a moment, there's more left to be said.
And once it all is said and done, I pray all would be okay.
Five years and more it's been, since the day you went away.
No comfort comes from sleeping in, or lying in a ditch somewhere.
And in the corner of my eye, there's a shadow that sits and sings.
Are you there, beyond the golden vines, where the grass is always green?
In time to come and time again, old words will ring as new.
Each day is long yet filled with fruit, is there nothing left to do?
The air is warm each breath is new, as the earth would have it be.
Yet these are words that I could never say, was there more for me to do?
And I know there's more to look to, and I feel it in my skin.
But it's hard not to remember, that life is a fragile thing.
And it's hard to keep on going, but it's harder to throw it away.
Yet if all life has a value, then I'd rather that you had stayed.
And if I could turn back time, I would not wait another day.
I'd be there before the golden gates, awaiting what we may.
And if all the world should crumble, before the earth would have it be.
Maybe then, we would have our way, along the edgeless sea.
And at the end of all our days, maybe then.
